Thank you for your interest in helping us assemble this site. If you are a volunteer lookout, paid lookout or just know someone who is or works with a fire lookout, please pass this sites information on to them so they can help us also. Informational credits will be given for all photo & documented sites submitted.

What you need to know about submitting information about a fire lookout site to this website. All site information submitted must be as accurate as possible because it is public record. Inacurate information or photos will not be posted or will be removed as soon as we are notified of the error in the site publication.

Information on a fire tower should include the following; tower name, entity responsible for the tower, state name, GPS Lat. & Long., Township, Range and Section information if available, and other information as displayed in the web page example attached for the page header. A short history of the tower including details of construction, year of construction and other unique information about the tower should also be included. An example of content can be seen in the example web page at the link below. A listing of the names of the attached photo.jpg files should also be included so the files will not be mixed up with other submittals, the date the photo was taken may also be included in the file name.
Tower Submittal Example

All written information should be submitted in a text format as used in Microsoft Notepad or Wordpad and saved as a .txt extention. Do not submit HTML, it will be stripped from the document and reassembled as necessary in to our lookout template.

All photos should be submitted in full size as captured with a 5.0+ Megapixel camera in a .jpg format. Scanned submittals should be done at 200dpi, but they will not have the ability to be expanded to a full size photo as can be done with the digital camera images. Photo images should be scanned as a .jpg file extention at a minimum 200 dpi with a size of 4" high by 5" long for posting on the web page. Each directional photo should overlap the previous photo by 25 percent in order to be stitched together into a panorama for posting on the site. All directional photos should be done with a tipod in order to keep the camera angle level, and the focal length should be kept at the same setting for all photos in order to be successfuly stitched. All digital or scanned photos should be labeled in the file name as to the direction of the photo that was taken. Photos should not contain close up objects that will interfear with the stitching process, i.e.: tower railing, roof cover, person, close grounf clutter, etc.. Photos with identifiable objects like persons, cars, etc. will be rejected and not posted. Photos of the fire tower with the staffing lookout seen in them will not be rejected, but will be verified as to the identity of the person from the towers responsible entity, then will be posted accordingly.
